U.S.-Japan trade talks continue

The U.S. and Japan continue to work on a trade deal involving agriculture and automobiles.

According to one report, the deal could involve Japan offering U.S. farmers better access to its market in return for Washington reducing tariffs on certain Japanese auto parts. The Trump administration is reportedly asking for increased access for U.S. beef, pork, wheat and dairy products.

The pace of the talks is expected to pick up after Japan’s elections this weekend. According to various media reports, the two sides would like to have an agreement finalized by September, when President Trump meets with Japanese Prime Minister Abe in New York.
