Bicyclist fatally struck by truck on Highway 101 north of Ventura

A bicyclist riding on Highway 101 was killed when he was hit by a truck on the freeway north of Ventura.

The accident occurred around 8:52 p.m. Wednesday on the northbound side of Highway 101, just past the “State Beaches” exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The bicyclist, described as a 67-year-old Oxnard man, had been riding in the slow lane of the freeway, CHP reported.

An Isuzu truck driven by a 26-year-old Oxnard man was heading north in the slow lane when, for reasons still under investigation, the truck hit the bicycle and threw the rider from the bike, authorities said.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, where CHP and Ventura Fire Department personnel responded.

The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to a CHP report.
