Women's clothing retailer Charlotte Russe closed its stores earlier this year, including the location at Brookfield Square shown here, but the Southridge Mall store is reopening under new ownership.

Women’s clothing store Charlotte Russe will reopen at Southridge Mall next month, part of a revival of the brand under new ownership.

The store will take its former, 7,000-square-foot location on the lower level near the center court.

The former parent of Charlotte Russe filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy early this year and announced it would close all of its more than 550 stores, including those at Southridge, Mayfair, Bayshore and Brookfield Square.

In late March, Toronto-based retailer YM Inc. bought the Charlotte Russe brand and intellectual property and has been reopening stores. The Southridge shop will be among 100 Charlotte Russe locations to reopen across the country, and the only one in Wisconsin, the mall said in a statement Wednesday.

Two other retailers also opened recently at Southridge — women’s boutique Shopbella, and Seventh Sense, which sells CBD body and skin care products.

Like Mayfair, Brookfield Square and Bayshore, Southridge has been hit by the closing of department stores that once anchored the area’s large malls. Spaces formerly occupied by Boston Store and Kohl’s at Southridge remain vacant.

The mall has filled most of the former Sears space with a large Dick’s Sporting Goods and the Round 1 amusement center. A T.J. Maxx store also has been approved for the space.
