Arkansas crops: cotton 91% and rice 61% good to excellent

Arkansas crops are progressing, but precipitation would be welcomed.  According to the latest Crop Progress report from the USDA, 85 percent of the cotton crop is rated good to excellent, with 91 percent of the crop squaring and 72 percent setting bolls. 

Rice is rated 61 percent good to excellent with 9 percent heading.  Extension agents are reporting that rice stinkbug pressure has been on the rise.   

Eighty-seven percent of the peanut crop is rated good to excellent with 87 percent of the crop pegging. 

Fifty-five percent of the corn crop is rated good to excellent, with 93 percent of the crop silking, 56 percent in the dough stage, and 23 percent in the dent stage. 

Fifty-six percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent with 98 percent planted, 95 percent emerged, 66 percent blooming, and 33 percent setting pods.

Alfalfa hay is rated 74 percent good to excellent.  Topsoil moisture supplies are rated 71 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture supplies are rated 74 percent adequate to surplus.
