Tennessee crops: cotton 61% and soybeans 77% good to excellent

Last week’s scattered thunderstorms did little to slow fieldwork for Tennessee farmers.  Now that planting has finished for row crops, farmers are turning to maintenance. 

Cotton is rated 61 percent good to excellent with 63 percent of the crop squaring and 13 percent setting bolls.  Tennessee’s corn crop is rated 75 percent good to excellent with 80 percent of the crop silking and 33 percent in the dough stage.  Soybeans are rated 77 percent good to excellent with 97 percent of the crop emerged, 40 percent blooming, and 13 percent setting pods.  Hay is on its second cutting and 70 percent of pastures are rated good to excellent. 

Topsoil moisture was rated 77 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is rated 87 percent adequate to surplus.
