Less than half of Illinois corn and soybeans rated good to excellent

The USDA reports only 42% of corn and 41% of soybeans were rated good to excellent in Illinois as of Sunday.

Corn silking reached 19%, compared to 91% last year and the five-year average of 67%.

Soybean planting continues with 96% of the crop in the ground, three percentage points more than a week ago, with 91% of the crop emerged. Soybeans blooming reached 12% compared to 77% last year and the average of 54%.

Winter wheat harvest in Illinois is 90% complete.
