Committee continues work on 2020 dietary guidelines

The team of experts responsible for developing the 2020 Dietary Guidelines is meeting in D.C. this week.

The meeting kicked off yesterday with presentations by each subcommittee and deliberation by the full committee. It continues today with comments from the general public.

The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines will focus on what Americans eat and drink to help prevent disease and improve health.

Carol Boushey with the University of Hawaii says the committee will look at how eating patterns relate to…

“neruocognitive health, growth, size, body composition, and risk of overweight and obesity, cardiovascular disease, and type two diabetes,” she says.

This is the second of five committee meetings. The next meeting is set for October 24. This is a process that happens every five years to ensure that the guidelines are up to date.

The final report is expected in May 2020.
