Seattle police arrest naked man after 'unprovoked' triple stabbing; 2 hospitalized

Three people were stabbed Tuesday in an "unprovoked" attack in downtown Seattle, police said.

Two people were taken to the hospital, a 75-year-old man who was stabbed in the neck and a 77-year-old man who was stabbed in the back, according to a blotter post on the Seattle Police Department's official blog. A third man was stabbed in the forearm and treated at the scene.

"We do believe that this was an unprovoked and random attack, so it is very concerning for us," SPD Sgt. Sean Whitcomb told reporters. "We're very heartened that the suspect is in custody."

The suspect, a 29-year-old man, was apprehended after he fled the scene and shed his clothes.

"Police also recovered the knife – which the suspect had discarded in the back of a package delivery truck – and the man’s clothes, which he had stripped off as he ran from officers," Seattle police wrote.

The two hospitalized men are in stable condition, police said.

The incident and subsequent investigation led to road closures in the area.

Police have not yet released the name of the suspect. He was taken to the King County jail, "for investigation of assault and a Washington State Department of Corrections violation," according to police.
