ASF expands footprint in Vietnam

African Swine Fever continues to spread rapidly across Vietnam.  The disease has now been found in 58 of the country’s 63 municipalities and provinces.  ASF outbreaks had mostly been found on small farms, but have now been found in large commercial operations.

Vietnam has culled more than 2.8 million pigs to date – that’s more than 9 percent of the country’s hog herd and up from 2.5 million a week ago.

African Swine Fever was first detected in China last August and has spread throughout Asia.  The disease has also been found in Cambodia, Mongolia, North Korea, and Laos.

African Swine Fever is highly transmissible and deadly to pigs, but it does not impact human health or food safety.
