Indiana, Manitoba continue to strengthen relationship

Hoosier agriculture leaders continue to strengthen the state’s relationship with Canada.

A delegation from Manitoba was in Indiana recently and spent several days visiting the Purdue University College of Agriculture, the Indiana Corn and Soybean Innovation Center, and Purdue Foundry.

The visit was a follow-up to last fall’s trade mission to Manitoba led by Indiana Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch and Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Bruce Kettler. The trip resulted in a signed memorandum of understanding.

Kettler says the MOU is much more than a piece of paper, which is why they continue to work together.

“When the deputy minister called me a number of weeks ago and said we’re interested in coming as a return trip to Indiana, we agreed we were going to sit down and start to put some more details on the memorandum of understanding about areas we can work together,” he says.

The representatives from Manitoba were: Dori Gingera-Beauchemin, deputy minister of Manitoba Agriculture; David Hunt, assistant deputy minister of Manitoba Agriculture; David Wiens, chair of the Dairy Farmers of Manitoba; Dr. Martin Scanlon, dean of Agricultural & Food Sciences – University of Manitoba; Ray Redfern, president of Redfern Farm Services; and Dixon Gould, president of The Progressive Group of Companies.
