Jonah Williams, the Cincinnati Bengals' first-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, is expected to miss the entire season after undergoing left shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum, the team confirmed Tuesday.

The Bengals selected Williams, a left tackle from Alabama, with the No. 11 overall pick, and he signed in May.

"We look forward to Jonah being a major contributor in the future, and know that he won't let this injury deter him from still being an important part of this team," Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said in a news release. "We're confident in our offensive line personnel as we head into training camp, and we believe they can do their part in helping this team achieve its goals."

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced earlier this month that Williams was "dinged up" during a practice in organized team activities.

Cordy Glenn, the Bengals' starting left tackle last season, had been playing guard for the team as of late, but could move back to left tackle with Williams' injury.

Earlier this month, the Bengals signed free-agent offensive lineman John Jerry, who did not play last season after the New York Giants released him during the preseason.

The Bengals signed Jerry the day mini-camp started. Most of mini-camp, Glenn lined up at left tackle in Williams' absence. Veteran guard Clint Boling also didn't participate. Jerry played some left guard. John Miller lined up at right guard with Bobby Hart at right tackle. Last year's top pick, Billy Price, was at center.

Jerry has played 121 NFL games — 32 for offensive line coach Jim Turner.

"That's part of the equation," Turner said. "That's part of the reason he's here. He's got a ton of experience. He's played a lot of football. He's also played tackle."
