Boxing legend Wladimir Klitschko, family rescued at sea after yacht fire

Wladimir Klitschko and his family and friends were rescued after a yacht they were on off the coast of Spain caught fire over the weekend, the former heavyweight boxing champion tweeted Tuesday morning.

"Be careful what you wish for," tweeted Klitschko, who shared video following the incident. "Fate took my wish for 'some #adrenalin' a bit too literally and our boat-trip Sunday night ended up in our boat #igniting and family & friends being evacuated by coast guard and fire rescue-team. No worries: we are all fine!"

In the video, firefighters can be seen on the yacht, which is covered in firefighting foam.

"We're in the sea getting rescued," Klitschko says in the video. "The boat was on fire."

Palma (Spain) Maritime Rescue spokesman Miguel Chicon told CNN that the crew of the yacht requested urgent assistance following the fire, which occurred at around 2 a.m. Monday.

The yacht's crew had already put out the fire by the time the rescue vessel arrived, according to CNN. It was then towed to a nearby port, though smoke was seen coming from the engine room during the towing, so the crew was evacuated to the rescue vessel, Chicon said.

No medical assistance was needed for anyone aboard the yacht, according to Chicon.

Klitschko, 43, retired from boxing in 2017 with a 64-5 record, ending a 21-year professional career.
