WARRICK COUNTY, Ind. — The driver in a semi wreck in northern Warrick County Monday afternoon sustained serious injuries after his truck overturned, trapping him inside.

Warrick County Sheriff's Office deputies, along with members of the Boonville Fire Department and Indiana State Police, responded to the crash reported just before 2:40 p.m. Monday on Indiana 61 between Greenbrier and Shelton Road.

Warrick County Sheriff Mike Wilder said it appears the semi driver went off the road into a ditch and was unable to get out because the truck's load shifted. The semi almost completely rolled over and struck an empty pick-up truck that was off the road.

The fire department responded with heavy equipment to cut the driver out of the vehicle. He was taken to an Evansville hospital by medical helicopter with serious injuries, Wilder said. The driver's identity has not been released.

State police reported power lines are down in the area, and motorists should expect delays.

Wilder said the driver was the only one in the vehicle at the time. There were gouges in the grass by the side of the road where the semi started to leave the roadway.
