The victim, a white male who looked to be between 30-40 years old, has not been identified and there have been no arrests, police said.

Patrol officers and medical personnel initially responded to the stabbing site to check on a report of a male subject seen walking covered in blood, police said. When they arrived, they found him lying on the ground, bleeding from what appeared to be several stab wounds, police said.

Medical responders rushed the victim to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was immediately taken into surgery, but later died.

Late Monday afternoon, several areas around a pair of adjacent apartment complexes remained cordoned off by yellow police tape.
