Keith named principal at Holloman Middle School

Dr. Joe Keith will replace Steven Starkovich.

Holloman Middle School will welcome a new principal this year.

Dr. Joe Keith will assume the position for the 2019-2020 school year, per a news release from Alamogordo Public Schools (APS).

Keith will replace current principal Steven Starkovich.

Alamogordo Public Schools announced in April  that Starkovich will serve as APS Special Education Director starting in 2019-2020 school year.

Decades of experience

Keith was previously principal of San Elizario in Fabens, Texas where he served for five years.

Prior to that he served in various administrative roles in the Socorro Independent School District over a 12 year period. That experience includes in the classroom as a science teacher.

"Dr. Keith brings 39 years of teaching and administrative experience to APS," a news release from the school district said. 

"He has a passion for science, technology, engineering and match (STEM) and seeks to bring hands-on, real world technological experiences to students."

Keith earned a bachelor's of science, masters in education administration and a doctorate in educational leadership and foundations from the University of Texas in El Paso.

Keith also served as an adjunct professor at University of Texas at El Paso.

Holloman Middle School

Holloman Middle School is located on Holloman Air Force Base and has a student population of approximately 187 in grades sixth through eight, according to the New Mexico Public Education Department's website.

The school received a B grade in the last school year, though in prior years it was ranked as an A and B school.
