If there’s a certain sound of summer during “Fiesta Weekend” at Ruidoso Downs Race Track, it would likely come from Los Lonely Boys Saturday night on the track at 7 p.m.

“Every time we play in New Mexico it feels like home,” Jojo Garza said in a telephone interview this week.

“Our band is known for a west Texas sound but our audiences in New Mexico treat us like it’s our second home.”

Jojo, Henry and Ringo are brothers who carried their San Angelo, Texas upbringing to the national stage in the early 2000s with their hit song, “Heaven.”

That song went to number one on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart and won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 2005.

“If there’s one song a band is known for and the name of it is ‘Heaven,’ we’re doing something right,” Jojo said.

Los Lonely Boys.

“When we first recorded that song many of the record companies weren’t interested saying it was too gospel-sounding. It was the fans that accepted the lyrics and the style, and that’s really who we have to thank for making that song so popular. We’re always grateful for our fans.”

The Los Lonely Boys have always been a hard-working act, doing more than 200 shows of year across the country. This will be their first appearance at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.

“We always have fun on stage no matter the venue,” Jojo said. “We’ve been playing as brothers all our lives, and so we have such a long history of working together that it seems to generate the smooth sound in our music.”

General admission tickets for the show Saturday night are $20, and are available at the box office by telephone at 575-378-4140 or online at www.raceruidoso.com.

The show also will feature the local act Homegrown Boyz, as a warm-up to the featured act on Saturday night.

The show will be outdoors on the race track with fans seated in the grandstand.
