MERIDIAN, Idaho — There will be some overnight closures on one of the busiest roads in the Treasure Valley this week.
The Idaho Transportation Department will be repaving a section of Eagle Road that was damaged by a water main break last year.
The section is between Pine Avenue and Fairview Avenue.
All northbound lanes will be closed Tuesday night starting at 9 p.m. Traffic will be detoured to use Cloverdale Road.
All southbound lanes will be closed Wednesday night starting at 9 p.m. with traffic detoured to use Locust Grove Road.
Roads will reopen the next morning at 5 a.m.
In February 2018, a water main underneath Eagle Road cracked, causing erosion under the roadway. Repairs to the pipe required the pavement to be excavated. The material used to patch the roadway was an emergency asphalt fix and never intended to be the final surface. The asphalt used in the upcoming repaving will meet ITD's standards for the heavily used highway.
"We were fortunate last year that any asphalt plant was operational in the cold of winter," said ITD maintenance foreman Travis Dodd in a blog post. "We've also been lucky that the mixture has held up as long as it has. That said, we're excited to see the repairs get finished with a product we know will work for the traveling public."
The city of Meridian is responsible for funding and executing the repairs, since the damage was caused by municipal utilities.
