Minnesota U.S. Senators encourage DMC signup

Minnesota’s U.S. Senators are encouraging dairy farmers to sign up for the new Dairy Margin Coverage program.

Democrats Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, both members of the Senate Ag Committee, issued a joint statement saying DMC offers protection to dairy producers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed cost falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer.

Calling dairy farmers an essential part of the Minnesota economy, Senator Klobuchar says they need help during this difficult time.

Senator Smith also pointed out dairy farmers have been hit hard by low prices, and she says too many got little to no help from the previous dairy safety net.

Smith and Klobuchar remind producers they can sign up for DMC at their local FSA office.
