A 22-year-old Milwaukee woman has been charged in a 2018 freeway shooting that killed a 15-year-old boy, according to a criminal complaint.

Deajai Renee Hodges is charged with first-degree reckless homicide/use of a dangerous weapon in the death of Gevonnie Frazier.

Gevonnie was shot shortly after 10 p.m. May 13, 2018 on southbound U.S. 41/45 and West Hampton Avenue, according to the complaint and the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.

The boy died two days later.

According to the complaint:

Hodges' cousin, who is not identified, received a "day pass," stole his grandmother's white Kia Forte and "cut his GPS bracelet off" before picking up Gevonnie and another person who the complaint does not identify.

Hodges later sent a text to the cousin telling him that if he returned the car he could take hers. But when the cousin drove to the 10000 block of West Appleton Avenue to pick up Hodges car she began shooting at him and he ran off.

Gevonnie then drove off with the stolen car, Hodges began chasing him in hers and started shooting after the two vehicles entered the freeway.

Gevonnie was struck in the head and the Kia entered a ditch.

Hodges was in the Milwaukee County Jail Monday with bail set at $100,000, according to jail records.

If convicted she could be sentenced to up to 65 years in prison, according to the complaint.
