Grover Cannon case: Witnesses ordered to return to court in July
Witnesses in the Grover Cannon case are being ordered to return to Caddo District Court in mid-July.
They will return to Judge Ramona Emanuel’s courtroom at 9:30 a.m. on July 22.
Cannon’s attorneys filed a document regarding the defense’s “position on trial setting,” according to court minutes.
Attorneys in the case are set to have a telephone conference Monday, June 17, afternoon to retain setting, per courtroom discussion Monday morning.
Cannon was on Monday’s docket for trial, and further proceedings. He is accused of the 2015 slaying of Shreveport police officer Thomas LaValley.
LaValley died while responding to a family dispute call in the 3500 block of Del Rio Street.
Earlier this year, Cannon’s trial was moved to Baton Rouge, but was requested by prosecutors to be moved back to Caddo Parish after weeks of jury selection.
The request was granted. The court also granted a gag order, which prohibits certain parties involved with the case to talk to media outlets, bloggers or similar entities.
This report will be updated as additional information becomes available.
