Check your cabinets: Some Ragu pasta sauces recalled, may contain fragments of plastic

Mizkan America Inc. has issued a voluntary recall for some varieties of Ragu pasta sauces, saying in a press release that they may contain fragments of plastic.

The company said it has not received reports of consumer injuries but issued the recall out of "an abundance of caution," according to the release. Any recalled sauces should be discarded and not consumed.

Consumers should look for a code on the jars' yellow cap, as well as the jars' Best Use By dates, to determine if products are included in the voluntary recall.

The recalled sauces:

  • RAGÚ® Chunky Tomato Garlic & Onion, 66 oz.

  • RAGÚ® Chunky Tomato Garlic & Onion, 66 oz.
    • Cap code: JUN0620YU2
    • Best Use By Date: JUN0620YU2
  • RAGÚ® Old World Style Traditional, 66 oz.
    • Cap code: JUN0420YU2
    • Best Use By Date: JUN0420YU2
  • RAGÚ® Old World Style Meat, 66 oz.
    • Cap code: JUNE0520YU2
    • Best Use By Date: JUN0520YU2

No other sizes or varieties of the sauce are affected by the recall, according to the company. 

All of the sauces were produced June 4 to June 8. The company said in the press release that it is working with retailers nationwide to remove any remaining affected products from store shelves.
