Prowler assaults sleeping woman in Moorpark, deputies say

Authorities said they arrested a 42-year-old man after a series of crimes including a burglary in Moorpark early Friday.

The burglary was reported at 4:44 a.m. in the 6000 block of Harvard Street.

The victims reported a man had entered their home through an unlocked window and assaulted a 20-year-old woman who was asleep, authorities said. The man then fled the residence when other occupants learned of the situation, authorities reported.

Deputies began a search for the suspect, utilizing a police helicopter and K-9 unit during the process. Eventually, deputies found a suspect identified as Juan Torres, 42, of Moorpark. 

Torres tried to flee but was caught after a brief foot pursuit on foot, deputies said. Further investigation revealed evidence connecting Torres to the original burglary call along with several other crimes, including trespassing into unlocked garages, according to authorities.

Torres was arrested on suspicion of burglary, false imprisonment, dissuading a witness, trespassing, being under the influence of a controlled substance and violating his parole, according to authorities. He was booked into Ventura County jail with bail set at $500,000 and his next court appearance is pending, according to jail records.
