RFS Integrity Act introduced in U.S. Senate

Bipartisan legislation that addresses oil refinery waivers has been introduced in the U.S. Senate.

Nebraska Republican Deb Fischer and Illinois Democrat Tammy Duckworth say the RFS Integrity Act they’re introducing would require small refineries to petition for Renewable Fuel Standard hardship exemptions by June 1st each year.  The change would also require EPA to properly account for exempted gallons in the annual Renewable Volume Obligations it sets each November.

Fischer calls the RFS Integrity Act a solution that builds off the recent victory of year-round E15.

Duckworth says the bill provides much-needed transparency and would prevent the misuse of the waiver process.  She says small refinery exemptions, granted to big refiners, have hurt Midwest farmers and ethanol plants.
