Tyson ‘fully committed to meat business,’ but pursuing alternative protein market

Tyson introduced its first plant-based meat product under the new Raised & Rooted label. Plant-based nuggets will be on store shelves in late summer. Blended burgers, made with beef and plants, will be out later. Tyson says the blends have fewer calories and less fat than competing plant-based-only patties.

Another Tyson product line, Aidells Whole Blends, includes sausage and meatballs made with chicken mixed with plant-based ingredients.

Referring to the meat and plants blends, Tyson CEO Noel White says the move is about ‘and’ – not ‘or.’ White says Tyson remains fully committed to its growing meat business and expects to be a market leader in alternative protein.

Plant based ingredients in the Tyson products are derived from peas, chickpeas, black beans, quinoa, lentils and barley.
