Michigan Farm Bureau celebrates centennial with 2nd science lab

Michigan Farm Bureau members are celebrating their centennial anniversary with the unveiling of a second mobile FARM science lab trailer.

Michelle Blodgett, Michigan Ag in the Classroom manager, tells Brownfield high demand for the program after two full school years and increased partnerships has helped to double their reach.

“We’re 80 percent booked for next school year with both labs, so the demand is there.”

The mobile FARM science lab brings a field trip experience to schools and offer lessons for K-12.

“The kids can do anything from building a watershed to extracting DNA from wheat germ, to making corn plastic or making soybean lip balm.”

She expects to be fully booked before the end of the year.

“We provide educator training, as some of the expansion we’re looking to do in the ’19 – ‘20 school year.  We also give the teachers a toolkit when they leave the lab that has access to our Michigan Ag in the Classroom resources.”

The first science lab has been able to reach more than 30,000 students and 1,200 educators across Michigan.
