Indiana farmer says he’s almost finished planting

A southwestern Indiana farmer is trying to finish corn planting today.

If he doesn’t, Mark Seib says he will take prevented plant on remaining corn acres.

“If we can’t get things planted today then I think we’re done with corn and we’ll just take those acres and put them into prevented planting,” he says. “We still have a little over 200 acres.”

He says they are almost finished planting soybeans.

“We’ll plant all the way up to July 4th on our double crop soybeans,” he says. “So, we have plenty of window here yet to still plant our soybeans and we’re only a day away from being done with soybeans.”

Seib says he doesn’t remember a year where planting challenges have been so widespread.

“This one is all across the map and we’re just trying to work our way through,” he says. “I talked to some guys in Ohio and they have 36 acres planted and that’s it. I talked to some guys in North Dakota and they’re actually planting 71-day corn- I’ve never heard of that.”

Seib grows corn and soybeans in Posey County.
