[productsamples] Aha! So the whole ‘blurry’ inspiration from Lucia Pica makes complete sense once the palettes are involved. There are four new palettes available from 14th June and as you’ll see, they’re nuances on a colour theme. Which means that they’re all about close work and subtle variations. I’ve returned to a mono-lid over past few months – it’s rare for me to bring in more than one shade other than to line because I like the simplicity of it at the moment. If you have the right colour, there’s really no need for complexity unless you really want it.

The palettes are straightforward: Blurry Green, Blurry Mauve, Blurry Grey and Blurry Blue. Above is Blurry Green and Blurry Blue.

In this picture, it’s Blurry Mauve and Blurry Grey. Blurry Blue and Blurry Grey are fairly flat, architectural colours – although the Grey does veer warm and more into taupe territory than the name implies. Blurry Green and Blurry Mauve have a bit more vibrancy but it’s Green that holds the shimmery shades and would be my top pick for enlivening rather than underplaying the eyes.

In this picture, the first four are Blurry Green and the second swatches are Blurry Blue.

In this picture, the bottom quad is Blurry Grey and the top is Blurry Mauve. Bottom line is that they’re all plays on the dominant colour but in a non-obvious way – you have to see them in real life really to make any decisions. I know I can pick up Green and wear any of the shades immediately, but if you’d asked me, from the names of the palettes, which I’d choose, I’d have taken Grey.

As you’d expect, the textures are meltingly silky with plenty of pay-off and you can build up to strength or go lightly with your brush for a wash of colour. They feel very earth and nature inspired … I don’t know if they’re quite wow enough to tempt everyone because they’re not the magpie buy, but a more considered purchase and in that respect, a distinct walk-away from industry trends. They’re £44 each.
