Who's having fun here? Pennsylvania ranks No. 8 for most fun state

If you aren't having a blast in Pennsylvania, check your pulse because it seems that we are one of the most fun states in the country.

We're the 8th most fun state, according to WalletHub, which looked at 26 indicators of "a jolly good time," like number of movie theaters, amusement parks, casinos, golf courses, and state fairs and events.

How are people having fun in Pennsylvania? Parks and recreation areas draw hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, including many along the Susquehanna River.

Beaches and miles of shoreline count, too. (Well, you can't have everything, but the survey did count miles of Lake Erie shoreline.)

Pennsylvania ranked 9th for "entertainment and recreation" and 7th for nightlife in WalletHub's analysis.

Here's what's interesting about some of our neighbors:

West Virginia landed in last place for fun (the coal mines might outnumber the casinos).

Delaware, the vacation destination for a good number of Pennsylvania residents, came in 48th. (The shoreline in Delaware's case was offset by the fewer numbers of movie theaters and performing arts theaters. Who goes to the movies when there's a beach?!)

Who's ahead of us? California came in at No. 1, then Florida, New York, Washington, Colorado, Nevada and Minnesota (Minnesota?). Oregon and Texas come in behind us.

The data collected came from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Economic Analysis, National Park Service, American Gaming Association and a number of other organizations.
