An EF1 tornado touched down near Newport, Perry County, on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said in a statement.

The tornado, with a maximum wind speed of 105 mph, cut a swath of approximately 300 yards for nearly 5 miles near the intersection of Route 849 and Narrows Road. It lifted just east of the Juniata River near Route 322.

Hundreds of trees were downed, including one that fell on a pickup truck, but there was little other property damage recorded.

The National Weather Service uses the Enhanced Fujita Scale to rate tornadoes based on winds and damages.

It was the second straight day a tornado was confirmed in the state. One hit the Morgantown area on Tuesday.
