National Hamburger Day deals: Where to get free burgers and juicy bargains Tuesday

Two beefy made-up food holidays collide Tuesday.

May 28 is National Burger Day, aka National Hamburger Day, and the lesser-known National Brisket Day. It's also considered International Burger Day.

Offers.com surveyed 1,200 consumers to find out their favorite spot to grab a burger. Five Guys was the top pick with 28%, followed by In-N-Out and Wendy’s with 17% each, McDonald’s with 15% and 14% for Burger King.

If you're going to celebrate by grilling up a burger at home, be careful because not cooking ground beef properly can be deadly.

We've rounded up the burger bargains available Tuesday unless otherwise noted at participating locations. We're also filling your appetite for deals with ongoing sign-up offers.

National Burger Day specials

To be on the safe side, always check with your closest location before heading out. Also, some will require you to have a restaurant's app or be signed up for emails.

Bareburger: From 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, get a buy-one-get-one deal on Bareburger’s American or vegan Golden State burger.

BurgerFi: Get a $5 BurgerFi cheeseburger Tuesday. The offer is only for in-store purchases and for the double-patty BurgerFi cheeseburger. Limit one per customer.

Burgerim: Get free fries and a drink with the purchase of any big burger Tuesday.

Burger 21: Get a 101 Burger for $3 Tuesday. This in-store offer is limited to one per person.

Dairy Queen: Get a free hamburger with purchase of a malt or shake Tuesday through May 31 with an offer on the DQ mobile app. Download at www.dairyqueen.com/app. Texas locations have a different offer – a free "Hungr-Buster" with any shake purchase – with a different app, which can be downloaded at www.dqtexas.com.

Dog Haus: All 36 locations are offering free burgers Tuesday to the first 100 people at each location, who choose between a This Burger or That Burger. To get this freebie, you need to download and register the Dog Haus app and then scan at the restaurant. No purchase is necessary. Download the app at http://app.doghaus.com.

Duffy's Sports Grill: Get $1 pints with purchase of a burger or any other meal through Tuesday.

Fatburger: Get free Postmates delivery of all Fatburger orders through Tuesday.

Islands Restaurants: Reward members get buy-one-get-one free burgers Tuesday. Become a member by downloading the Islands App to your phone and signing up.

MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes: Get a free quarter-pound BYO Burger Tuesday with purchase of fries and a drink or shake. Add-ons not included.

Morton’s The Steakhouse: The National Burger Month special is available through May 31. Get a burger with matchstick fries and paired with a glass of Michael David “Earthquake” Zinfandel for $36.

Ruby Tuesday: Through May 31, enter the Ruby Tuesday Burger Jackpot at www.rtburgerjackpot.com for a chance to win prizes, including free burgers, a grand prize trip to Las Vegas and free Ruby Tuesday for a year. Also from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, get $5 Smokehouse Sliders served with fries or tots.

TooJay's: The Florida-based chain has a new burger lineup through July 28 and is giving members of its Delicious Rewards program double points in May. 

Wayback Burgers: For National Burger Day Tuesday, get a signature burger for $3. The chain also has been celebrating National Hamburger Month with a month of surprise deals for customers who have the Wayback app. Offers vary and include discounts, double or triple points or a free side or drink. Download the app at www.waybackburgers.com/loyalty. The app isn't need for Tuesday's deal.

White Castle: The fast-food chain known for its slider burgers is celebrating National Brisket Day through May 31 with a buy-one-get-one free deal. Get a free BBQ Brisket Slider with purchase of one with a coupon posted at www.whitecastle.com/value-offers.

More deals: Some smaller chains and locally owned businesses also will have deals Tuesday. One of the easiest ways to find specials is by checking social media accounts.

These aren't all burger deals but they are ongoing specials from restaurants that serve burgers. Most require signing up for email clubs or downloading and using smartphone apps. Participation varies by location.
