Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was hospitalized Sunday after reportedly suffering symptoms of a stroke in Detroit.

The 57-year-old Gilbert was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital early Sunday morning, where he is "recovering comfortably," according to The Detroit News. A native of Detroit whose businesses are headquartered in the city, Gilbert was scheduled to speak Wednesday at the Detroit Regional Chamber's Mackinac Policy Conference.

Details of Gilbert's condition and diagnosis were not released.

"He received immediate medical attention and is currently recovering comfortably. Our collective thoughts and prayers are with Dan for a speedy recovery," said a statement released through Gilbert's family of businesses to The Detroit News.

Gilbert, the founder and chairman of Quicken Loans and a major business and political influence in Michigan and Ohio, has been majority owner of the Cavaliers since 2005.

Gilbert, who owns or controls some 100 buildings in downtown Detroit through real estate arm Bedrock, just received final approval last week from Michigan regulators for the $1 billion sale of his Greektown Casino-Hotel.

Dan Gilbert has been majority owner of the Cavaliers since 2005.

By moving his Quicken Loans headquarters downtown from Livonia in 2010, he became a catalyst of downtown Detroit's current rebound.

He has mapped out several major downtown projects. Chief among them is the Hudson's site, a mixed-use project that will feature the city's new tallest building, a residential and hotel tower rising more than 100 feet higher than the Renaissance Center. Gilbert broke ground on the project in December 2017, and it is expected to open about 2022.

Gilbert has pushed to bring professional soccer to Detroit.

This month, he hired John Beilein away from the University of Michigan to be the Cavaliers' new coach.

Next month, the Detroit Golf Club hosts the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Detroit's first PGA Tour stop.

Forbes estimates Gilbert's worth at $7.3 billion.

He and his wife, Jennifer, have five children, including 23-year-old Nick, who was born with neurofibromatosis, a nerve disorder that causes tumors to grow randomly through the body. The Gilberts have raised millions to fight the condition.
