Crew member injured at Indy 500 when Jordan King's car makes contact on pit road

INDIANAPOLIS -- A crew member for Jordan King was injured during the Indy 500 on Sunday when King's No. 42 Honda made contact with him during a round of pit stops at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Chris Minot, a Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing tire changer, was taken off pit road on a stretcher after suffering a leg injury. He was awake and alert and taken to the medical center.

Emergency personnel stabilized him before transferring him to IU Methodist Hospital for further evaluation with a non-life-threatening lower leg injury.

King started 26th in the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500. He made contact with his crew member while pitting on lap 69 of 200 scheduled laps. 

Simon Pagenaud won his first Indianapolis 500 after a dominating peformance.

Pagenaud, who earlier this month won the IndyCar Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, started on the pole and led for most of the 200 laps before holding off a furious charge from 2016 Indy 500 winner Alexander Rossi to complete a sweep of the month of May.
