Police charge man in connection with homicide, string of shootings

A 42-year-old Shreveport man was arrested early Friday morning and charged in connection to multiple shooting incidents in which one man was injured and another was killed.

Louis Lopez Graves was taken in to custody around 3:30 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Thurgood Circle and Henry Street in Shreveport’s Mooretown neighborhood, Shreveport police said in a news release on Friday.

Graves was charged with the second-degree murder of 55-year-old Darriel Woods and the attempted second-degree murder of 53-year-old Terri Jackson.

He was additionally charged with assault by drive-by shooting and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

The string of incidents began on Wednesday, May 22, when police responded to the 5300 block of Roberts Avenue in connection to a drive-by shooting.

The next day around 4:20 p.m., police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 4100 block of Clover Street which left Woods critically injured.

Woods was taken to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 4:50 p.m., according to a news release from the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office late Thursday night.

Woods’ autopsy will be done at Ochsner, the coroner’s news release read.

On Friday, May 24, police also responded to a shooting incident in 3600 block of Hollywood Avenue, in which Jackson was injured, Shreveport police said.

Graves was taken to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport for observation, police said.
