Trump comments on MFP-2 trade aid

President Trump says he is standing by America’s farmers.  He was joined by farm organization leaders, state agriculture secretaries, and Secretary Sonny Perdue as he told reporters China has targeted farmers in the trade dispute, and another round of trade aid is necessary. “To end these chronic trading abuses, my administration took necessary and very lawful action to protect America’s economy, security, and farms.”

The President told reporters at the White House the second round of Market Facilitation Program assistance to farmers will be paid for by tariffs on China. “We’ll be taking in over a period of time hundreds of billions of dollars in tariffs and charges to China and our farmers will be greatly helped. We want to get them back to the point where they would have had if they had a good year.”

Trump says farmers are patriots and have not asked for subsidies, but instead want good, fair trade deals.

Farm organizations have said they are grateful for the assistance but would prefer to get trade deals in place.

Trump also urged farmers to contact House Democrats to pass the USMCA trade agreement.
