MO Corn CEO says MFP-2 looks fairer to corn farmers

Missouri Corn Growers CEO says it looks like second trade mitigation payments, announced today, are going to be fairer to corn farmers, “Instead of basing it and announcing ahead of time on a commodity by commodity basis, they’re going to do it on a flat per acre payment. That’s better. It doesn’t distort the markets. That was another consider that we asked them not to do.”

Marshall says there have some big concerns, though, “We’re cautiously optimistic. It does look better. It looks like it’s going to be a payment rate per county. But the big issue for us is, we have SO much ground in Missouri that is unplanted today, perhaps will go unplanted. So how will prevented planting be addressed?”

Marshall says it IS heartening that the administration heard the message from corn farmers, “Certainly this does look better than the penny a bushel that we received a year ago.”

Marshall says Missouri Corn still supports the president’s efforts to get a fairer deal with China.
