Missouri leaders urge Perdue to pick KC area

The governors and the congressional delegations of both Missouri and Kansas are urging Ag Secretary Perdue to choose the Kansas City area for the relocation of the USDA’s Economic Research Service (ERS) and National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).

They cite the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor which stretches from Manhattan, Kansas to Columbia, Missouri, the future home of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility and home to five-thousand USDA employees already.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly said in their letter that the diversity of agriculture in their states is “nearly unrivaled.”

Earlier this month, Secretary Perdue released a list of the top three finalists for the relocation, which also include Perdue University in Indiana and the Research Triangle of North Carolina.
