Aloha All,

I have to admit I was unaware that it had been a couple of weeks since my last post.  This year is whizzing past me, just like Beep Beep my new Mystery Class at Bedecked & Beadazzled.  Todays post features my Silk Ribbon Flower class and my latest Mystery Class.  The stitch of the day is Small Scallop Variation.

It feels like just a few days since  I was in Columbus.  I must say I had a grand time taking this class.  My loosey goosey tension was an advantage in the Ribbon Embroidery class.  You don’t want to be too precise with Ribbon Embroidery or you will drive yourself crazy trying to get all the stitches the same.  Also the stitches don’t lie properly if your tension is too tight.  Remember flowers have different petals in real life.

The two day Silk Ribbon Flowers class was held at Louise’s Needlework May 4th & 5th.  I learned several new ribbon embroidery techniques and became more familiar with the different ribbon sizes.  For me, learning where I could use 4mm, 7mm, & 13mm ribbon was half the battle.  I have stitched a number of different ribbon embroidery stitches, but always wonder if I am using the right size.

Jill Mashburn Elia is an excellent teacher and covered a number of Ribbon Embroidery stitches including, Japanese Ribbon stitch, Fern stitch, Leaf stitch, Filled Lazy Daisy, Ribbon Rosette, Spider Rose, Cast on Bullion, French Knots, Buttonhole, just to name a few.  For those that don’t know, Jill is Louise’s Needlework’s owner.

Here is my stitching progress, then a couple of close up photos of the flowers.

I took a few close up photos if the flowers for my reference.  I can go back and look at how Jill stitched her flowers when I work on this canvas again.

I will go back and complete my background before I stitch the flowers.  This is such a beautiful piece that I will finish it one day.  I know that Jill is planning to teach this class at the shop again.  If you want to take the class check her newsletter and Facebook page for an announcement.

Before I give you today’s stitch here are a few pictures inside Louise’s Needlwork, enjoy!  if you see a canvas you want, call or email Louise’s Needlework.

The shop has many canvases not shown here, plus a terrific thread inventory.  This is a needlepointers heaven!

Stitch of the Day:

Todays stitch reminds me of the ocean!  Small Scallop Variation would also make great shingles on a roof, or a cobblestone road.  You can leave the stitch as an open lattice or you can fill it with a stitch.

I thought a white or clear bead would look great in the open space.  I stitched the Scallop Lattice part of the stitch using 3 plies of Planet Earth overdyed silk.  I filled the stitch with satin stitches using 1 strand of Kreinik Fine #8 braid in color 096.  The satin stitched remind me of a raindrop or teardrop.

This is just a pretty stitch, enjoy and let me know how you use the stitch!

Mystery Class:

Of course this year has had some great mystery classes from Ruth Schmuff at Bedecked & Beadazzled!  Yes I talked myself into taking “Beep Beep” a Dominic Bourbeau canvasBeep Beep or Vroom Vroom has been sitting not so quietly by my chair.  In the past week he has tried to jump on my stitch stand by having two near misses.  First I spilled coffee then I spilled a Diet Coke, both narrowly missing Beep Beep.  Luckily I keep everything in plastic bags.  Mario really wants me to start stitching him and is going to drastic lengths to be placed on my stitching stand!

The second class was this past Sunday so I should be getting the class from UPS by Thursday or Friday.  Luckily the next class is 3 weeks away, gives me time to actually put a few stitches into Mario!  I just love the colors in this canvas!

Kitty Tales:

As you all know I have been having a turf war with the orange cat that keeps coming looking for food and to beat up Blackie.  Yesterday I was the crazy lady waving her grabber stick at the cat while moving slowly!  I got to the deck and the orange tabby was under my neighbors truck sitting there staring me down!  It got no food and we set a trap for it.

I felt bad for this little guy.

Beardie was enjoying some sun last week.

Now Noe was arching her back and yelling at Tango, who copped the “I don’t care” attitude!

Noe was giving Tango a good yell!

Stimpy loves the cushion in the crate and snuggles on it daily!  She has decided she has had enough of mum taking her photo!

Well folks that’s it for today!  Do something you love and put a few stitches in when you can!
