Illinois ag department firm on dicamba deadline

The Illinois Department of Agriculture plans to keep the June 30th dicamba application cutoff deadline despite producer requests to extend it.

Doug Owens with the department says delayed planting has some farmers concerned but right now the deadline is firm.

“We are not thinking about extending that cut off date. We are monitoring the situation with the weather and we will make determinations as we go.”

Owens tells Brownfield Illinois was the leading state in the nation for dicamba misuse complaints in 2018.

He says the deadline was created to limit drift to sensitive crops and help ensure the technology remains available to farmers in the future.
