Letter carriers deliver bounty to Lincoln County Food Bank

Thanks to the generosity of postal patrons all over Lincoln County, shelves at the Lincoln County Food Bank in Ruidoso are overflowing with staple canned goods and special miscellaneous blessings, director Priscilla Terry said Tuesday.

A bounty of food items collected by local lettercarriers helped stock the shelves of the Lincoln County Food Bank.

"We have mail carrier, Rich Adams, to thank for this successful food donation. Rich has headed this effort for over 20 years and is currently working at the Mechem Drive Main Post Office. Thank you, Rich."

The giving doesn't have to stop with the anual food drive, local carriers point out. At the post offices on Mechem Drivein Ruidoso and Sun Valley Road in Alto, large green receptacles are  stationed in the lobbies year-round and are designated for Lincoln County Food Bank.Nonperishable food items will be brought to the food bank as they fill.

Donations also can be delivered directly to the food bank, Terry said.

"If anyone missed the opportunity to donate food items, please know you can come by the food bank at 138 Service Road," she said. "The food bank is open from noon to 4 p.m., every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

"In April, we served over 324 families with staple food boxes, including 31 new clients. Our numbers have steadily increased since January, so the need for food in cans and boxes is always important."

She thanked residents and visitors of Lincoln County for helping to feed the hungry.
