MO Corn President: A trade win for corn industry

The president of the Missouri Corn Growers Association says it’s good to have tariffs lifted on all sides on the US-led steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada and Mexico, “It’s a major win for the corn industry and it looks like, you know, we finally got a win and things are turning around a little bit.”

Mark Scott says they’re also pleased with the good news out of Japan, “Japan, it opened its doors to corn-fed beef this last week, too, and that was a plus for the cattle industry which livestock is the number-one user of corn. It helped us on that, too.”

The Missouri Corn Growers Association is urging the administration to give corn farmers more than a penny per bushel in the second round of trade mitigation payments, “Last week, when they said that the China negotiations was failing, corn dropped 31-cents! So, the corn market IS tied to the China markets.

Scott says they’re hopeful there will be a positive resolution to the U.S./China trade war.
