Memorial Day is coming up soon and since it's a federal holiday, expect a few changes in your day-to-day routine.

On Memorial Day, we remember and honor people who have died while serving in the U.S. military.

As with other federal holidays, there's a chance for school and business closures. So, before you start making a list of errands to get done during your extended weekend, checkout what's actually up and running that day.

When is Memorial Day 2019?

Memorial Day is on Monday, May 27.

Will schools be closed on Memorial Day?

Schools are closed during the federal holiday.

Will banks be open?

While many banks still allow access to drive-up or pedestrian accessible ATM machines, most will be closed for the federal holiday. Wells Fargo, M&T Bank, First National Bank, and Fulton Bank will be closed, for example.

Will mail get delivered?

The USPS observes Memorial Day, so there won't be any mail delivery. FedEx services are limited to FedEx Custom Critical and modified hours with FedEx Office on Memorial Day.

Will trash get picked up?

As you can imagine, there are several waste companies that service central Pennsylvania. Here's a look at the schedules for major companies in the area.

York County

  • Penn Waste will be closed on Monday, May 27, so your normal trash pickup will be pushed back a day.
  • Republic Services for residential properties will run one day behind throughout the holiday week, beginning with services scheduled for the holiday.

Hanover area

  • If your normal trash pickup day is Monday, your trash will be collected on Wednesday because of the federal holiday. All other collection will remain on a regular schedule.

Chambersburg area

  • Waste Connections of PA will have a Tuesday through Saturday trash pickup schedule the week of Memorial Day.
  • The Sanitation Department will also push their pickup schedule back by a day in observance of the holiday.

Lebanon County

PennDOT

PennDOT driver license and photo centers will be closed on Saturday, May 25, through Monday, May 27, to observe Memorial Day.
