Window for planting in Michigan opened some

A district director with the Michigan Corn Growers Association says this year’s planting season has been trying the patience of farmers.

Chris Creguer tells Brownfield the end of last week was the first real window of ideal planting conditions to get into fields.

“We can make a lot of progress on planting in a very short window of time and growers have taken advantage of that.”

He expects to see a jump planting progress numbers this week.

Also an agronomist for Pioneer, Creguer recommends farmers get through this week before making maturity changes.

“It will get to black layer and maturity, just maybe carry a little more moisture in the fall so we suggest waiting until Memorial Day weekend.”

Creguer grows corn, soybeans, wheat, dry beans and sugarbeets in Tuscola County.
