Chance of showers lingers Sunday night

May showers that wet Ventura County this weekend could drop a bit more rain overnight Sunday, forecasters said.

As of Sunday afternoon and evening, stronger cells were mostly passing north and east of Ventura County, unleashing some strong downpours in San Luis Obispo County and in the Central Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

But some wet weather was aimed at Ventura County.

"We do have at least some moderate rain heading into the county right now," said Kathy Hoxsie, a weather service meteorologist, shortly before 5 p.m.

Twenty-four hour totals as of 5 p.m. Sunday showed areas such as Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley received roughly a third of an inch, according to the weather service. Ojai saw more than a half-inch during that 24-hour stretch.

The Lockwood Valley, in remote Los Padres National Forest land above Ojai, got about 0.71 inches.

There's still a chance of more rain arriving Tuesday, Hoxsie said, but the initially weak system has weakened even further, making precipitation less likely.
