Storm bringing rain to Ventura County through Sunday

Staff reports

A storm is expected to bring rain to Ventura County through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Like a storm that brought record rainfall for the date to Ventura County a few days ago, this weather pattern is closer to winter and early spring conditions than what we usually see in May, according to the weather agency.

As the cold front passes through Ventura County on Sunday morning, it will bring rain and a slight chance of thunderstorms, followed by a more showery pattern from late Sunday morning through early Sunday evening, according to the weather agency.

Total rainfall amounts are expected to range from a quarter to a half-inch in Ventura County. In the mountains, snow could fall at elevations as low as 5,500 feet Sunday night into Monday morning with some light accumulations possible below 6,000 feet, according to forecasters.

Gusty west to northwest winds are possible especially during the afternoon and evening hours Sunday and Monday, according to the weather agency. The strongest winds are expected over the mountains, although even coastal areas could have close to advisory-level winds at times, according to forecasters.

Temperatures will remain significantly below normal for Sunday through Tuesday, according to the weather agency.
