PA Lottery Presents $3.2 million Commemorative Check to 11 Winners of Match 6 Jackpot

The winners call themselves the “Lucky Lehighton Ladies” after purchasing the winning ticket at a GIANT Food Store in Lehighton, Carbon County

LEHIGHTON, PA – Officials from the Pennsylvania Lottery and GIANT Food Stores today presented a commemorative check to 11 women who recently won a $3.2 million Match 6 Lotto jackpot. The check presentation was held at the GIANT store in Lehighton, Carbon County where the jackpot-winning ticket was sold.  The store receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the big winner.

The winners are all Lehighton Area School District employees who had the good fortune of hitting the jackpot during Teacher Appreciation Week.

“We are extremely excited to congratulate the 11 winners of this big Match 6 jackpot,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko. “This Match 6 run lasted 42 days and generated an estimated $16.6 million in sales. That results in about $6.6 million in profit, which helps the Lottery fulfill its mission of generating funds for older Pennsylvanians.”

The jackpot winning-ticket was sold for the Thursday, May 9 drawing. Each winner receives approximately $290,911, less applicable tax withholding.

“We’ve been playing as a group for about two years, but this is the first time we won big,” said Karla Costenbader-Kovach, who usually purchases the tickets for the group that now calls themselves the “Lucky Lehighton Ladies.”

“It was 8:30 on a Thursday night when I found out we had won and I’m screaming! I contacted the group right away and a few of them yelled at me, they said I was lying,” laughed Kovach. “I plan on investing some of the winnings and using the rest on some home improvements.”

The recent 42-day Match 6 run produced a total of 1,781,775 winning tickets that won $9,847,197 worth of total prizes. Players are reminded to check every ticket, every time.

Versions of Match 6 Lotto have been offered almost continuously since 2004, with a brief, planned break from March 2009 to June 2010. On August 29, 2017 the Match 6 Lotto game started being drawn nightly. The game offers players a starting jackpot of $500,000. The game’s record jackpot was a $7.3 million prize won by a single winning ticket sold in Cambria County for the Oct. 3, 2013, drawing.
