More logistical problems for input suppliers

An agronomist expects more logistical problems as suppliers try to deliver inputs this spring.

Curt Woolfolk with The Mosaic Company says the retail and distribution networks are doing everything they can as weather compresses opportunities for them to move product and for farmers to be in the field.

“There’s been all kinds of challenges, whether it was the waterways with the barges, and then of course as you flip over to the rail system and timing that they pick up product and deliver it. That’s presented some new challenges.”

He tells Brownfield a reprieve from the rain would alleviate a tremendous amount of pressure as spring delays continue.

“I hope the Mississippi will start to drop a little bit and some of the rail lines will break lose and start resupplying some of these warehouses that have been burning through product.”

Woolfolk says corn farmers should start looking at alternatives like a side-dress application of nitrogen if they can’t get fertilizer on ahead of planting.
