MSU offers food processing certificate

Michigan State University and several community colleges have partnered to offer a food processing certificate program starting in the fall.

Michigan State University’s Institute of Agriculture Director Randy Showerman tells Brownfield the new Food Processing, Technology and Safety program will prepare graduates to safely operate and maintain equipment in food processing systems.

“That will be offered at Michigan State in conjunction with Lansing Community College as well as Muskegon Community College, Northwestern Community College up in Traverse City, and Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek.”

Three mobile food processing labs will travel between sites as part of the hands-on training.

Graduates of the two-year program will receive a certificate from MSU and an associate degree from participating community colleges.
