Minnesota farmer skeptical about trade aid

A southeast Minnesota soybean farmer is concerned another round of trade aid won’t do much for his bottom line.

Brent Mohn of Lakeville says the Market Facilitation payments came when there were still decent opportunities to sell.

“Then, when you were able to put some trade assistance on top of that, you actually could have a positive outlook in the bean market for last year. This year unfortunately, there’s just not a lot of probably sales made. So even if you put a trade package on top of where we’re at in the market today, there’s still just no good margin in the bean acres.”

President Trump indicates he plans to use money collected from Chinese tariffs to help U.S. farmers.

Trump tweeted Tuesday farmers will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of what is happening as negotiations with China continue.
