Illinois planting delays similar to 2013

Illinois is facing planting delays similar to 2013.

The USDA reports corn planted increased by only 1% last week to 11% across the state of Illinois. That is compared to 88% last year and 82% for the five-year-average.

The last time Illinois experienced similar planting delays was 2013. Seventeen percent of the corn crop was planted at this time in 2013, compared to 7% the previous week. 

As of Sunday, soybeans planted remained at 3% from the previous week compared to 61% last year and the average of 34%.

Illinois’ winter wheat crop is rated 37% good to excellent.
