The Hawaiian Airlines Business Mastercard is currently seeing an increased welcome bonus of up to 70,000 miles: That’s 60K after $1K in purchases within the first 90 days and a bonus 10K after making a purchase on an employee card. While Hawaiian miles aren’t the most valuable currency, this can be a good bonus if you have a good use in mind.

Quick Thoughts

The new offer on this card might make it worth a look in certain spots:

  1. You have a good use for Hawaiian miles in mind (always a good reason)
  2. You live in or travel from Hawaii and can take advantage of partner awards with decent pricing from HI
  3. You want a non-Amex way to earn Hilton points (H/T to Richard Kerr on this one)
  4. You have a magic wand that makes saver business flights available between the continental US and Hawaii

If any of those apply to you, this offer may be worth it. If not, it’s a questionable proposition. In the past, I’d said that this one could be a value for flying a family on inter-island flights since those flights ordinarily cost $100 and you could get enough of them (or for enough passengers) with an offer like this to save a nice chunk of change.

However, now that Southwest has entered the inter-island market with flights from $29 each way, prices are already being competed down and the mileage rates just don’t make sense with Hawaiian.

Overall, this is probably a miss for most folks, but as it is a business card it should theoretically not add to your Chase 5/24 count and that might put it back into the realm of consideration for the truly dedicated among us.
